The School of Hibernia (after Raphael), 2024 is a high-profile art project that has garnered national and international attention, including coverage in La Stampa, RTÉ, and The Irish Times. Challenging the patriarchy, the photograph features a full-scale re-enactment of Raphael’s School of Athens fresco, with an all-women cast. The project was devised by the art collective Na Cailleacha and staged in collaboration with Trinity College Dublin’s History of Art and Architecture Department in the Museum Building. The image showcases women from various age groups and backgrounds, all of whom are leaders in their respective fields and have made significant contributions to human knowledge. For Culture Night, Damer House Gallery is delighted to present The School of Hibernia (after Raphael), 2024. This free event will include a large-scale projection of the image, and a cross-disciplinary, inter-generational seminar. It will look the importance of integrating and critiquing art history, architecture, science, and the ongoing impact of such projects. Participants are Dr. Rachel Moss, Associate Professor, History of Art & Architecture at Trinity College Dublin; Saoirse Exton, Irish representative on the United Nations Young People’s Climate Change Group; artists Patricia Hurl, Therry Rudin, and Art historian and Curator, Catherine Marshall all of Na Cailleacha. Each speaker will give a short presentation on different aspects of the project, followed by a Q&A session. This is a great opportunity to meet some of the creators of the School of Hibernia and to find out more about this unique and intriguing project.
