He wrote fantastic comedies with a political kick and great understanding of the trials of the common man and woman. His most famous play 'Accidental Death of an Anarchist', looked harshly at police behaviour but 'We Can't Pay, We Won't Pay' nearly started a revolution. Updated after the crash, it was renamed 'Low Pay, Don't Pay', and although not performed in Ireland for more than ten years, it is still wonderfully relevant and hilariously funny. Director Martin Maguire brought the very moving 'Disco Is Dead' by Jacqui Corcoran to the Source last year and has directed a series of political comedies with Theatre On The Edge over the last few years including 'Oh To Have a Little House' and 'A Great Little Republic'.
