KITES
'Come on Angel, don't you ever want to fly?' 1948. Cork is crying. Rations. Unemployment. And those unforgiving clouds. But two girls are plotting a new planet. Kitty's a native, desperate for adventure, and Angel's a blow-in searching for home. Through flying kites, dress-up and play, they leave behind their broken families and war-time grief, and let their fantasies find wings. But what happens when the line gets caught and reality beckons? KITES is a fast-paced drama about the rite of passage from girlhood to womanhood in post-war Ireland, exploring dreams, friendship, love and rage. KITES comes to Saint George’s Arts and Heritage Centre, Mitchelstown on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd October @ 8pm. Tickets €15 are available on eventbrite.ie or on the door. Audiences are reminded they can bring their own bottles to further enjoy the night. KITES was developed with the support of Pavilion Theatre in early 2022, and has been on quite a journey. Its Dublin preview was awarded 4.5 stars (Reviews Hub), with Imelda Dyas saying - 'KITES is absorbing from beginning to end; and as the lights came up one is left hungry for more'. After this, the show went on to Camden and Edinburgh Fringe, where it was described as 'Striking' - The Scotsman, 'A tale we can relate to...no matter who we are' - Get The Chance, featuring 'Two great performers' - Everything Theatre. We are so pleased to be bringing it back home to Cork where it all began. Writer and actor Tzarini lives in Ballylanders, and is thrilled to see her work staged in her local town. Saint George’s Arts and Heritage Centre wishes to acknowledge the financial support for this event from The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and Cork County Council which is proud to support high quality work by the professional performing arts sector.
