In The Midst of Plenty is a beautiful new contemporary folk musical, which tells the story of womanhood, betrayal, love, loss, courage, friendship and so much more in the time of The Great Famine. This show features an original contemporary acoustic folk score and a large cast of Ireland's best loved actors , including Tipperary native, Mary Claire Ryan, and vocalists, and a full folk band on stage. It is set against the backdrop of the plot to assassinate Denis Mahon, the landlord of the Strokestown estate in County Roscommon. It has been touring nationwide since May and has received an overwhelming response from audiences so far. ‘In the Midst of Plenty’ was developed with funding from the Roscommon County Council and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media. Its 2023 tour is made possible by support from the National Famine Way, the Irish Heritage Trust, Creative Ireland, Roscommon County Council, Tipperary County Council, the Ireland Funds, and RTE Supporting the Arts.
